On September 29, 2018, I married my best friend and love of my life. Rob and I got married at Marble Mountain Resort in Steady Brook, NL. Our day was everything I have ever dreamed of and more. It is now 6 months later and I am still on cloud 9. I often catch myself daydreaming about our wedding day! Our wedding day was absolutely perfect and it is a day that I will never forget.
Since receiving our wedding photos in January I have written this blog post many times. Each version ended up longer than the one before. After numerous attempts, I finally managed to create a shorter version that would not take you an hour to read. This post is a little different than my normal posts. There are no recipes or tutorials. In today’s post, I share with you some details and photos of our wedding day. If you are not in the mood to read feel free to scroll through the photos.

The Proposal

Every great wedding starts with a proposal. On July 2, 2016, Robert proposed to me during a hike in my hometown. A few months later during a walk in the woods in the Humber Valley region of Newfoundland on a beautiful day during the first weekend of October Rob and I decided on a fall wedding. Within a week we booked our venue and the planning began.

Our Engagement

Rob and I were engaged for 2 years. I spent most of those 2 years planning and creating our dream day. We did not hire a decorator. Once we decided on our venue I decided that for the most part, I wanted to be a DIY bride. This included making most of our wedding decor, baking the cake and cupcakes and decorating the venue. Rob helped me with some of the decor and my dad helped me with a few last minute unfinished projects the week of the wedding. My family and our bridal party also helped with the decorating which significantly sped up the process.
There were certain things that I was not willing to DIY. We hired a photographer, wedding officiant and a florist. I booked hair, makeup and nail appointments. Our venue provided the catering and our DJ played as a wedding gift to us.

Our Wedding Day

Rob and I spent the night before our wedding together. We had spent the entire week with family so we wanted a night alone to relax before the big day. When we woke up in the morning it was raining outside. Thankfully the rain stopped around noon allowing us to have the outdoor wedding we hoped for. They say that rain on your wedding day is a sign of good luck.
I left early in the morning to head to my makeup and hair appointments. Once my hair and makeup was complete I drove to the chalet my family had rented in Humber Valley Resort to finish getting ready with my bridesmaids. Rob and his groomsmen got ready at our house.
My dad drove me to our wedding then my parents walked me down the aisle to the man of my dreams. We personalized our wedding ceremony. Even though I wrote most of the ceremony and read it a million times prior to our wedding I still cried during the vows. Rob made funny faces and handed me a tissue from his jacket pocket. It was as if he had known I was going to cry. We exchanged rings, shared our first kiss as husband and wife, signed the marriage license and were presented to our family and friends for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. McDonald. Our ceremony was short and sweet just like we wanted.
After our ceremony, we headed to an area of the resort with beautiful fall foliage for family photos.
After the family photos, our bridal party set out on an adventure. We had arranged for access to the mountain using side by sides. This allowed our photographer to capture some pretty amazing photos.
Heather, our photographer, suggested that the bridal party head back to the venue and we headed off to take some more photos before joining them. She wanted us to take some time to ourselves before heading back to our family and friends. At various points throughout the day, Heather made sure we took some time to ourselves to relax, breathe and enjoy the moment. This was the best advice we received on our wedding day!

Once we finished taking photos we headed back to Marble Mountain Resort for our reception. During our reception, we played the shoe game and in order to get us to kiss our guests had to pick a question about Rob and/or I from a bowl and answer it correctly. We kept the speeches to a minimum. Our Matron of Honour and our Best Man both gave beautiful heartfelt speeches that made me cry. The last speech of the night came from Rob and I. We jotted down some notes around midnight the night before while drinking a glass of wine. Needless to say, it could have used a little extra preparation time.

Rob and I shared our first dance to Die a Happy Man by Thomas Rhett. We decided to combine the father/daughter and mother/son dance. Our song for this dance was Humble and Kind by Tim McGraw.

After the formal dances were over our DJ played an awesome mix of music that kept our family and friends on the dance floor all night. We also had some fun playing with sparklers outside, did a few too many shot skis and took lots of funny photos at our photo booth. It truly was a night to remember!

I am so grateful for all of our family and friends who spent our wedding day with us. Most of our guests had to travel to attend our wedding and we are so thankful that they did. Our family and friends made our day very special and it is a day that I will never forget.

Thank you so much for letting me share our special day with you! If you have any questions or are interested in learning more please leave a comment below. If you enjoyed this post please Pin it and share it with your family and friends.
